Caption: False-colour three-dimensional computed tomography (CT) scan of a stenosis (narrowing or obstruction) of the renal artery. This view is of the upper abdomen region, just below the rib cage. Bones of the ribs and vertebral column are coloured white. The aorta (red), the major artery in the body, runs in line with the vertebrae. Two renal arteries branch off the aorta to feed the kidneys with blood. A stenosis is seen in the right renal artery (left on image), causing a severe narrowing of the artery. On this side the kidney is smaller (red) than the normal kidney (green), and kidney function may be severely impaired.
