Caption: Balloon angioplasty. Coloured angiogram (X-ray) showing a balloon angioplasty procedure on a leg artery. The pre-procedure view (at left) reveals the narrowed leg artery (yellow line, at upper left) above the ankle (at lower left). The artery has been widened on the post-procedure view (at right). The mid-procedure view (at upper centre) shows the inflated balloon (white), used to widen the artery, on its catheter. To the right are the tibia (shin, top) and talus (ankle-bone, bottom). The bones are at lower left and right in the other two images. Arterial narrowing is often due to atherosclerosis, or fat deposition. Angiograms use an X-ray opaque medium to reveal the arteries. Stealth Monolumen System.
