Liver cell death. Sectioned gross clinical specimen of a human liver affected by cell death (necrosis, centre). Necrosis of the liver is often caused caused by an interrupted or reduced flow of blood (in which case it is termed infarction). It can also be caused by viral infection (hepatitis) or poisoning.
