Caption: Jaundice. Light micrograph of a section through a human liver with obstructive jaundice (icterus). Excess bilirubin (brown), a bile pigment, has accumulated due to an obstruction of the bile ducts, possibly as a result of gallstones. Jaundice is not a disease in itself, but a symptom of many disorders of the liver and biliary system. Treatment is aimed at curing the underlying cause of the condition. Magnification unknown.
