Seborrhoeic wart

Seborrhoeic wart

Rights Managed

Seborrhoeic wart on an 83-year-old man's forehead. This is a benign (non-cancerous) skin growth also known as basal cell papilloma or seborrhoeic keratosis. It arises from the epidermal layer of the skin and is caused by an overproduction of the skin protein keratin. This type of wart is harmless but becomes more common with age. It is black here as it has undergone cryosurgery for cosmetic reasons, where the cells have been killed by freezing with liquid nitrogen, but will look normal once it has healed.
