Caption: Lupoid hepatitis. Gross specimen of tissue from a liver in a case of lupoid hepatitis. This is where hepatitis (liver inflammation) is caused by lupus disease. This is where body tissues are damaged by the body's own immune system (autoimmune attack). It is a chronic (long-term) disease, treated with anti-inflammatory drugs. In advanced cases, where there is poor response to drugs and poor function of the liver, a liver transplant may be required.
