Caption: Barrel cacti (Echinopsis sp.). Cacti are specially adapted to live in arid environments. They have enlarged succulent stems in which they store water and to reduce water loss, they have very narrow leaves (spines). At night, water condenses at the tips of the leaves and is directed to the root system.
