Caption: Stomach metaplasia. Light micrograph of a section through tissue from the stomach showing metaplasia, the transformation of one cell type to another. Here the cells of the stomach have transformed into intestinal cells (one at lower right). These cells are tall columnar, with large, ovoid, basally located nuclei. Metaplasia is usually not a serious condition, but it may lead to cancer in some cases. Magnification unknown.
