Caption: Meningioma brain tumour (green) in the brain, coloured computed tomography (CT) scan. The front of the brain is at top. A meningioma is a benign (non-cancerous), slow-growing tumour that develops from the arachnoid mater, one of the membranes (meninges) that lines the brain. The growth of the tumour can put pressure on the brain tissue beneath it, which causes symptoms depending on what the area controls. Typical symptoms may include slurred speech, dizziness, confusion, tremor or paralysis. The tumour can usually be removed surgically, which effects a cure.
