Intradermal naevus. Close-up of an intradermal naevus on a man's face. The raised swelling is darker than the surrounding skin. An intradermal naevus is a type of mole (pigmented naevus) prod- uced by abnormal clustering of pigment cells (melanocytes) in the skin. Like other moles they are harmless, but can in very rare cases become cancerous. Moles usually develop during childhood or early adulthood. Adults have on average 15-20 scattered over the body.
