Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Neurofibromatosis. Cafe au lait spots on a 3-year-old toddler's back. These spots are caused by the rare inherited disorder neurofibromatosis, or Recklinghausen's disease. This condition is typified by the formation of benign (non-cancerous) tumours (neurofibromas) from the fibrous coverings of nerves. Although these growths are harmless, they can lead to physical deformation and may turn cancerous.
