Caption: Villous oedema, pill camera view. Villi are finger-like folds on the walls of the small intestine that serve to increase its surface area. Oedema occurs when fluid accumulates in a tissue, causing it to swell. This is usually due to increased local fluid secretion due to inflammation, although the cause of this is not known. A pill camera is a pill-sized camera that is swallowed to image the digestive tract.
