Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Fibroepithelial polyp on the underside of a 5 year old girl's tongue. This is a benign (non-cancerous) growth on the tongue's mucous membrane. The polyp consists of fibrous tissue surrounded by a layer of epithelial cells. If the polyp is causing discomfort it can be surgically removed.
