Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Acne rosacea. Red skin rash and pustules across a 51-year-old woman's lower face due to acne rosacea. Acne rosacea is a chronic skin disease occuring in adults. It is most common in middle- aged women. The blood vessels of the face enlarge, resulting in a flushed appearance. Rosacea usually begins with temporary flushing, often after drinking alcohol or eating spicy food. It can then develop into a permanent redness of the skin, often accompanied by pustules resembling acne. The antibiotic drug tetracycline is used to manage the condition, but will not cure it. Rosacea tends to recur for up to 10 years and then disappears.
