Caption: Hand of a person suffering from shingles, the inflammation of the skin caused by the Varicella-Zoster virus (a member of the Herpesvirus group), which is characterised by small blisters (most apparent on the forefinger). Shingles usually starts with pain along the length of a nerve (in the face, chest or abdomen) followed by the development of vesicles (blisters). The virus causes chickenpox in children.
