Caption: Sarcoidosis. Light micrograph of a section through a granuloma (fleshy nodule) from a liver in a case of sarcoidosis or Boeck's disease. A Langhans-type multi-nucleated giant cell (centre) confirms the diagnosis. Sarcoidosis is a chronic inflammation of the lymph nodes or organs. It causes multiple granulomas, which are similar to tuberculosis. The disease has no known cause. Medical intervention is not always necessary, but if treatment is needed it is in the form of corticosteroid drugs. Magnification unknown.
