Caption: Athlete's foot, the commonest form of ringworm, medical name tinea pedis, showing cracked skin between the toes. Ringworm is a fungal infecton of the surface of the skin, particularly the scalp (tinea capitis) and feet. It is caused by various species of fungi including Microsporum, Trichophyton & Epidermophyton. It is highly contagious and is spread by direct contact or via infected material. Athlete's foot is treated with antifungal creams or dusting powders, such as Mycota.
