Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Diabetic ulcers on the foot of a 90-year-old male patient with diabetes mellitus. Such ulcers usually arise due to inadequate blood supply to the limb, which results in low oxygen supply to the tissues, a condition known as ischaemia. Necrosis (tissue death) can occur, causing the skin to turn black. Atherosclerosis (progressive narrowing of the arteries) is common in diabetic patients.
