Caption: Bleeding duodenal ulcer, pill camera view. The duodenum is the first part of the small intestine. Ulcers in the stomach or intestines are typically caused by infection with Helicobacter pylori bacteria. Duodenal ulcers cause abdominal pain, blood in the faeces and weight loss. Treatment is aimed at killing the bacteria, so antibiotics are given. Proton pump inhibitors, which reduce the amount of stomach acid produced, are also given to reduce the pain and aid healing. A pill camera is a pill-sized camera swallowed to image the digestive tract.
