Caption: Xanthelasma: a yellow, disc-like swelling in the skin of the upper eyelid resulting from deposition of fat in the skin. Xanthelasma are common in elderly people, but are of little more than cosmetic importance. Severe cases are seen in certain disorders of fat metabolism. Fat deposits in the skin are generally termed xanthomata, and their presence is usually accompanied by a raised blood cholesterol level.
