Caption: Infected insect bite. View of weeping sores and erythema (redness) on the face due to an infected insect bite. The infection has led to erysipelas, an acute inflammation of the skin and subcutaneous tissue; this is accompanied by fever, nausea and vomiting. The bacteria responsible for causing erysipelas is Streptococcus pyogenes. Treatment includes prescribing penicillin or erythromycin (antibiotic drugs) and painkillers.
