Caption: Dog bite. The scars of a dog bite one week after the injury took place. Secondary infections may easily develop after the bite due to the large population of bacteria and microorganisms present in the dog's saliva. The most serious are tetanus and rabies which, if untreated, may be fatal. Medical advice should be sought for all but minor injuries and as soon as possible. Treatment includes wound cleaning, an antitetanus injection and/or an antirabies vaccine or serum may be needed.
