Caption: Dog bite. Close-up of a wound on the forearm of a 40 year old woman, caused by a dog bite. The wound is open and bleeding. The skin surrounding the wound has become red and inflamed. Dog bite wounds are usually cleaned and then left open and dressed rather than being stitched, in order to prevent multiplication of bacteria. Antibiotic drugs are usually prescribed to combat bacterial infection. Anti-tetanus and rabies treatment may also be given.
