Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Post-surgical internal bleeding on the elbow of a 62-year-old man following an operation to correct a tennis elbow. The swelling is a haematoma, which is an abnormal area of blood, usually clotted, due to internal bleeding or bruising. The treatment is aimed at stopping the bleeding and then reducing the swelling. A large haematoma that is pushing up against adjacent organs, like this one is pushing on the skin, can be surgically drained. The blood clots and bruising will eventually heal normally. A tennis elbow operation is carried out to correct an inflammation of the tendons in the elbow.
