The achilles tendon originates from the muscles in the calf. It connects the calf to the heel bone. Minor injuries, caused by excessive exercise, faulty running technique or wearing incorrect footwear, can result in the inflammation of the tendon and tearing of the tendon fibres. Treatment involves rest and physiotherapy.
