Caption: Congenital umbilical hernia on a baby's abdomen. A hernia is the abnormal protrusion of an organ or tissue through an opening. In this case part of the intestine is protruding through the navel. It is a congenital (present from birth) defect. Umbilical hernias are often self-correcting, but in some cases surgical repair of the hole may be required.
