Caption: Lavender, Lavandula spica. The name comes from Latin lavare, wash, referring to the plant's use in toilet preparations. It flowers between mid- summer and early autumn, and it is harvested just before the flowers are fully open. It has anti- tussive, antiseptic and antispasmodic properties.
