Caption: Page written in Moon braille. Moon braille was invented in 1845 by the Englishman Dr William Moon (1818-1894), who lost his sight at twenty-one. Moon braille consists of fourteen embossed characters that are approximations of printed letters. This makes the Moon system easier to learn than the more complex, universal system invented by Louis Braille in 1829, especially for those that lose their sight later in life.
