Caption: Wood garlic. View of the leaves, flowers and roots of wood garlic (Allium ursinum). Wood garlic is also known as ramsons, or bear's garlic. It can be used in many cases in a similar way as garlic, for instance as a disinfectant and as a painkiller on insect stings and minor wounds. Usually the bulb is used, and extracts can be used to treat hypertension (high blood pressure) and to help eliminate toxins from the body. Young leaves can be used in salads, and impart a sharp onion flavour. It grows throughout Europe and the British Isles, preferring moist, shady areas.
