Caption: Jimson weed (image 3 of 4). Flower of a jimson weed (Datura sp.) opening at sunset. This poisonous plant, also known as a thorn apple, angel trumpet or sacred datura, is a hallucinogen. Its large white flowers bloom from March through to November. They have adapted to their semi-arid and desert habitat by opening at dusk and closing in the middle of the following morning. Photographed in Coachella Valley, California, USA, at 7:55 pm. For a sequence of the flower's opening see images B640/188-191.
