Caption: Drug dispensing technology. Advanced dispensing system (ADS) devices held in hands. This device (left) has been designed for the secure, monitored and remote treatment of heroin addiction. The main device is based on mobile telephone technology and allows the monitoring and control of the addict's use of a prescribed course of methadone, a drug to treat heroin addiction. Other drugs can also be used with this system. The drugs are delivered as a powder by inhaler technology using specially designed cartridges (blue/orange, right and in the device). The system enables dosages to be varied and monitored to prevent overdoses. Developed by GW Pharmaceuticals. Photographed in 2002.
