Caption: Electroencephalography (EEG) testing for Alzheimer's disease, showing a woman volunteer subject undergoing an EEG examination. Local electrical activity of the brain is recorded by electrodes placed across the scalp & displayed as colour-coded, cross-sectional images by a computer; 16 to 19 signal channels are typically employed. Comparisons are made between normal patients & those suffering from Alzheimer's disease, a progressive form of dementia. Results have indicated that one particular signal is especially disturbed in Alzheimer's patients.
