Caption: CT scans being studied on a computer screen by radiologists. CT (computed tomography) scans take slice images through the body by using pulses of X-rays fired from different angles. A computer then builds the resulting images into a scan of a single layer. CT scans are widely used to locate tumours. They are good at differentiating soft tissue from bone, and are also used to image the brain.
