Caption: Arthroscopy: minimally-invasive ("keyhole") surgery to remove damaged cartilage from the knee using an arthroscope, a form of rigid endoscope. Forceps and scalpel attachments at the end of the device allow removal & remodelling of cartilage tissue without making a conventional incision. The eyepiece of the endoscope is attached to a video camera and the operation relayed on the monitor screen (just visible in centre background).
