Blood analysis. View of a pipette being used to transfer blood into a microtube. Blood samples are used to make blood cell counts, analyse the levels of chemical compounds, evaluate oxygen levels and search for contaminating organisms and toxins in the blood. Compatibility with other blood is also tested, which is very important for transfusions. The microtube will be placed in a centrifuge where rapid spinning will separate the blood into its constituent serum (liquid) and blood cells (solid). These can then be tested independently.
