Caption: General view of an operating theare during orthopaedic surgery to replace a young man's hip joint with a ball & socket prosthesis made from titanium and plastic respectively. The reflections on the image are due to special "Plexiglass" screens, which comprise a second room within the operating theatre. The screens, along with the special gowns and head gear that the surgeon and his assistants are wearing, are intended to minimise the risk of infection; a problem especially associated with hip replacement surgery.
