Neck fusion surgery. Surgical team perform a neck fusion operation in a hospital operating theatre. The surgeon (at centre) works on the hip of the patient; he wears a lamp mounted on his head to provide additional lighting. He is assisted by surgical nurses. During this procedure bone or cartilage is taken from the pelvis (hip bone) of this patient and transplanted into affected areas of the spine of the neck. The neck site can be seen behind the surgeon. In the back- ground an anaesthetist can be seen monitoring the patient's signs of consciousness.
