Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Surgery to remove a tumour in the pelvis. Image 1 of 10. Surgical instruments to be used in the removal of a tumour, or abnormal growth, in the pelvis. At far left are bone shavers, for shaping bone. Clamped to the table is a bone mill, which grinds down bone fragments. A new femoral head from a bone bank is in a white pot at right. The new femoral head (the "ball" part of the ball and socket joint) will be shaped to fill the hole left in the pelvis following the removal of the tumour. For a sequence of images showing this surgical procedure, see M551/427-M551/436.
