Intravenous drug infusion. Anaes- thetist uses a syringe to inject a drug into an intravenous (IV) drip bag containing a saline solution. The drug may be an anaesthetic to maintain unconsciousness in the patient, or may be a painkiller if the patient is about to become conscious. The intravenous infusion, or drip, is administered directly into the bloodstream.
