Caption: Treatment for Parkinson's Disease. Image 1 of 13. Patient with Parkinson's Disease awaiting brain surgery, known as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), to remove the tremors caused by the disease. A metal frame has been screwed onto the patient's skull to provide support and guidance during the operation. Electrodes are surgically implanted in the brain, where they provide continuous electrical stimulation. This stimulation blocks the signals that cause the tremors. The electrodes are controlled by a pulse generator unit fitted in the patient's chest. For a sequence showing DBS surgery, see M566/233-245.
