Caption: Treatment for Parkinson's Disease. Image 8 of 13. Surgeon examining X-rays of the skull of a patient with Parkinson's Disease. The patient is undergoing brain surgery, known as Deep Brain Stimulation (DBS), to remove the tremors caused by the disease. Electrodes are surgically implanted in the brain, where they provide continuous electrical stimulation. This stimulation blocks the signals that cause the tremors. The electrodes are controlled by a pulse generator unit fitted in the patient's chest. The X-rays show where the electrodes should go. For a sequence showing DBS surgery, see M566/233-245.
