MRI shows near total hemispherectomy

Rights Managed

This axial cross section MRI image (FLAIR = fluid attenuation inversion recovery) shows near total right hemispherectomy done for intractable seizures. The large black area which is continuous with the lateral ventricles is the area where the brain had been removed. It is now filled with cerebrospinal fluid which now takes up the empty space.
