This renal blood vessel will be joined to the equivalent blood vessel in the patient. The kidney is being stored in ice to maintain its condition. Donor kidneys must also be flushed with perfusion solution and have their fat removed prior to transplantation. Kidney transplantation is the simplest and most commonly performed organ transplant, and it has a very high success rate. It is done to replace kidneys with chronic kidney failure.
