This image is part of the sequence Healthcare: Woman undergoes breast enlargement and abdominal reduction (tummy tuck) in cosmetic surgery

Caption: Cosmetic breast and abdominal surgery. Image 20 of 28. Cosmetic surgeons operating on a middle-aged woman undergoing breast enlargement and abdominal sculpturing. They are now in the abdominoplasty stage after finishing the breasts. An abdominoplasty (tummy tuck), is a procedure where excess fat and skin is removed from the lower abdomen and the muscles of the abdominal walls are tightened. Here, the surgeons are using a cautery (blue), an instrument that burns through tissue, to seal off any sources of bleeding. Also seen are tweezers (green) and a swab (lower centre) for soaking up any excess fluid. For a series showing the entire surgical procedure, see images M590/498 - M590/525.
