Caption: Balloon flowers (Platycodon grandiflorus). This flower is native to northeast Asia including China, East Siberia, Korea and Japan. The root is used to lower blood sugar and cholesterol levels in the liver and to stimulate the release of histamine. It is also used in the treatment of coughs, colds, bronchitis, pleurisy, pulmonary abscesses and throat infections. Photographed in July.
