Champix tablets, stop-smoking aid. Champix tablets contain varenicline, which can aid those who are addicted to nicotine to give up smoking. Varenicline is a central nervous system drug called a nicotinic acetylchlorine receptor partial antagonist that stimulates the nicotine receptors in the brain. It also prevents the nicotine from acting on the receptors itself and therefore stops cigarettes from having a rewarding and enjoyable effect. After the first week, when the dose is gradually increased, the medicine is taken twice a day for 12 weeks.
