Caption: Man suffering from lung cancer receiving radiotherapy on a linear accelerator. Linear accelerators are used as a source for high- voltage x-rays, which have the ability to penetrate the skin to a greater depth and deliver a larger x-ray dose to the target area relative to the dose at the skin. Here, the operator is setting-up the machine. When this is done he will leave the heavily-insulated room before treatment is commenced. The head of the accelerator rotates through a full circle around the patient during the course of treatment. Photographed at the Indian Rotary Cancer Hospital (IRCH), Delhi.
