Caption: MODEL RELEASED. Radiotherapy: demonstration of the red laser beams that are used in aligning a patient's body prior to radiotherapy, or radiation treatment. The metal frame immediately above the young woman's back is used to hold the heavy metal blocks (some are visible on the rack in background) that are used to shield tissues surrounding the target area. Modern techniques in radiotherapy aim to deliver a radiation dose that is sufficient for the needs of treatment (killing cancer cells, for example) whilst doing minimal damage to surrounding tissues & organs.
