Normal human immunoglobulin (gamma globulin) is prepared from a pool of 1000 donations of human plasma and contains antibody to measles, mumps, varicella (chickenpox) and other viruses that are prevalent in the general population. It is given by intramuscular injection for protection against hepatitis A, measles and to a lesser extent rubella (German measles). The injection produces an immediate passive immunity.
