Rafflesia flower (Rafflesia pricei) on the forest floor. This plant has one of the largest flowers known, and can reach a width of one metre. It is parasitic, spending most of its life as a tiny thread within its host, a type of vine. When mature, the elaborate flower erupts from the vine. It only flowers for a few days during which it attracts pollinating insects by its strong smell of rotting flesh. R. pricei is found on the island of Borneo and Sabah in southeast Asia.
